Election In France: Why President Macron Announced Mid-Term Elections In France?
In a surprise move, French president Emmanuel Macron called midterm parliamentary election.
Why It Happened? The move comes after President Macron suffered a crushing defeat from Marine Le Pen’s far right National Rally in the European parliamentary elections. As per projections, Marine Le Pen secured 32% support, while Macron's Renaissance party lagged at 15%. Macron termed the decision 'serious and heavy' one, but that he could not resign himself 'to the fact that far-right parties are progressing everywhere on the continent'. He described it as 'an act of confidence', saying he had faith in France’s voters. Notably, president Macron won re-election in 2022 and his current term runs until spring 2027.
