The new Members of Parliament (MP) are prepared to soon take their seats, and here's the salary and allowances they get during their term.

The results of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 were announced on June 4. The results showed that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) crossed the halfway mark and got a tally of 293 seats. Meanwhile the opposition, or the INDIA Bloc managed to deliver a strong performance and secured 232 seats. According to reports, Narendra Modi will be sworn in as India's Prime Minister for a third term on Sunday.
Here's the salary, perks and allowances of the Members of Parliament (MP).
Salary
A Member of Parliament (MP) earns a basic salary of Rs 1,00,000 per month.
Allowances and Perks
An MP gets Rs 70,000 per month as a constituency allowance. This is given for expenses to maintain offices.
Expense for office
MPs are given a daily allowance of Rs Rs 2,000 to cover lodging, and other expenses while they are capital.
Accommodation
An MP is given rent-free accommodations during their 5-year term. The accommodations, which include bungalows, flats or hostel rooms, are given based on seniority. Those who chose not to take the accommodation can claim an allowance of Rs 2,00,000 per month.
Travel allowance
They are entitled to 34 free domestic air journeys in a year for themselves and their families. They are also entitled to free first-class train travel for work and personal purposes.
Medical
MPs are given free medical care under the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS).
There are many other benefits and allowances for MPs, which include, pension, phone and internet, water and electricity etc.
