Lok Sabha Election Result 2024 LIVE Updates: The Bharatiya Janata Party is eyeing a third straight term in power, while the Opposition under the umbrella of the INDIA bloc is seeking to wrest power from the ruling party.

The Lok Sabha elections for 543 seats of the lower house were held across seven phases and the counting of votes has commenced. The Bharatiya Janata Party is eyeing a third straight term in power, while the Opposition under the umbrella of the INDIA bloc is seeking to wrest power from the ruling party. Meanwhile, all the exit polls have predicted the BJP returning to power with a resounding majority, with further inroads in Odisha, West Bengal and southern states.

TMC has put up a stellar performance in West Bengal. TMC’s Krishnanagar candidate Mahua Moitra currently leads by a margin of over 65,000 votes. Abhishek Banerjee extended his lead to over 5 lakh votes in Diamond Harbour. Asansol candidate Shatrughan Sinha leads by a margin of over 36,000 votes.
Meanwhile, Congress candidate Rahul Gandhi is currently leading by 50,589 votes in Rae Bareli, ahead of BJP candidate and Uttar Pradesh minister Dinesh Singh.
"Agar zabardasti loktantra ki maut hogi, toh Mahabharata ka sangram hoga (If democracy is killed forcefully, a fight like the Mahabharata will commence). To save democracy every worker in Purnea and Bihar should come ready to die tomorrow. Kafan bandh ke aaye (come with your shrouds). Har maathe pe kafan ho (May all of you come with shrouds over your head)," Yadav said in a press conference on Monday.
Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar on Monday said in cases of uncontested polls, the Election Commission steps in when other candidates in the fray withdraw nominations under duress. He also indicated that any provision that bars a person from being declared winner in case of uncontested polls may not be in accordance with the law.
He was responding to a question at a press conference on a Supreme Court ruling on 'none of the above' option vis-a-vis candidates who are elected to Lok Sabha or assemblies unopposed.
